Dr Roger Strasser and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine

In our latest interview, Callum speaks to Dr Roger Strasser, Professor of Rural Health at the University of Waikato in New Zealand and Founding Dean Emeritus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) in Canada. Like ScotGEM, NOSM has a distinct remote & rural focus and the team behind ScotGEM visited NOSM as part of the establishment of our course. They discuss the origins of NOSM, what makes the school special and unique, and draw some comparisons to ScotGEM.

ScotGEM Stories would like to give special thanks to Dr Hoi F. Cheu, Professor of English, who works in science communication and rural and northern health research at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario (one of the partners behind NOSM) for his work editing this interview.

The excerpt of music used at the beginning of the video was from the introduction to a choral adaption of a Canadian folk song called Song of the Mira.
