We are a group of medical students studying as part of Scotland’s first graduate-entry programme for the training of doctors – ScotGEM (Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine) – which welcomed its first students in September 2018.
This unique and innovative programme is run by a partnership of the medical schools of the University of St Andrews and University of Dundee in collaboration with NHS Fife, NHS Tayside, NHS Highland, NHS Dumfries and Galloway and the University of the Highlands and Islands and is designed to develop doctors interested in a career as a generalist practitioner within NHS Scotland.
Find out more about the course at the official programme pages.
ScotGEM Stories was created by Callum George and Joseph Garnett, students of the course’s first intake, and launched in early December 2019. They ran the project, with assistance from Andrew MacFarlane, until their graduation in June 2022.
Since then a new team of ScotGEM students have managed the blog, contributed to by an ever-growing group of student and staff writers from ScotGEM, as well as some invited guests from beyond the programme.
